Riviera Maya…here we come!

I booked our vacation this weekend! I am totally stoked. We basically live to vacation! :-)

We will be leaving on Fathers Day (Sunday, June 15) and returning that saturday the 21st. We will be staying at the Grand riviera princess/ Grand sunset princess (sister hotels on the same property that share amenities and whose rooms are identical). The riviera is a few years old and the sunset is brand new. We will be in the riviera. WHO CARES! Its mexico!

Delimma is this: what excursions to take part in. We are interested in 3 that we know of.

X-Caret: archeological park. I know there is a butterfly museum, lazy underground rivers, mushroom farm, equistrian shows, etc. Food and beverage not included in the day which bumms me!

Chichen Itza: One of the 7 wonders of the world. 2 and a half hour bus ride to and from the place (in the middle of mexico, apparently). It is a site for mayan ruins and their largest temples/pyramids. Apparently its wonderful…but wonderful enough to spend 5 hours on a bus?!

Tulum and Xel-Ha: I’ve read reviews that Xel-Ha is great but you need to rent a car or get a taxi to take you instead of taking the tour bus so as to have the whole day at the park b/c there is so much to do. From the reviews i’ve read, taking your own transportation is the ONLY way to see both in one day…otherwise youre rushed.

So for all of you who know anything about this….HELP! I need info/opinions….FAST! Even if it’s hearsay from a friend, i want the info. I want to do great stuff while we are there and dont want to get ripped off w/ the shuttle rides if there are better ways to get places. And i kinda dont want to feel like i’m on a cruise where you have to get back to the ship/bus by a certain time, but nor do i want to be off by myself if its not the best thing to do. So advice, please!!!

  1. Pure laziness my friend. I apologize for not making you a link. I am doing it now. I think I just needed to be called out on my lack of bloginess.

  2. We went to the x-caret (pronounced ish-caret, remember that!)on our honeymoon, and we loved it! I know nothing about the others. They also have a bat cave. and it’s completely dark with only red lights. i did not go in.
